Farenheit 9/11

I just got the chance to watch Michael Moore's documentary film Fahrenheit 9/11. I heard prior to watching it that it was overly biased; that there were perhaps interesting points, but that overall, it was just exageration by those with an agenda.

Well, I didn't really believe that then. I am pretty well informed about George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, John Ashcroft, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, and Michael Moore. Now that I've seen the movie, I can tell you for certain: The movie presents a synopsis of the facts that lead to a clear and indisputable conclusion: The war in Iraq is about money and oil, for the benefit of the Bush family, insiders, and major corporations. It is and never was about WMD, freedom for Iraqis, or fighting terror.
Why there are so many people in the United States of America who are incapable of seeing the truth, or who willingly accept the lies that the Bush Administration perpetrates and perpetuates is completely astounding. It is also strong testament to how fear (as spread constantly by the Administration, corporate America, and the media -- especially Fox) is the primal motivator of human beings.

As an aside, but relevant to this topic...
I don't watch Fox television anymore. I used to, but now I realize that every minute of their programming is designed to manipulate me. They have about 10 hours of each day devoted to some COPS show where we are taught to believe that the whole country is teeming with drunken and drug-addicted wackos who will kill us all in a high-speed chase if we're not careful to lock the doors. Another lesson: don't bother getting involved in the criminal justice system to make sure that it's fair and represents our values; every single person ever hauled into court is just another one of those slime-balls you see on TV. The worst part of Fox television is the political 'reporting'. They simply are not 'Fair and Balanced'. They aren't even civilized.

If you are a Bush supporter, I want to ask you questions on three main points:

Weapons of Mass-Destruction
Aren't there other places where the threat of WMD was greater, places the Administration ignored? Don't you hold the President accountable for telling the American people (and the world) point blank that 'we know where the weapons are' when in fact there were none, and it was a lie? We invaded another country (who never attacked us) with a lie as the pretext. Is that the America that you stand for? How do you reconcile the fact that we, as the country with the largest stockpile of WMD, and one that is building new WMD programs, is actually the country which initiated war on a country that had none? Shouldn't we be more concerned with safegaurding the weapons here?

Freedom
If we are giving Iraquis what they want, why are they fighting so hard against it, even after the 'regime' is already gone? Why are there no other major countries (besides Great Britain) who want to help 'free the Iraqis'? Could it be that 'free the Iraqis' is a euphemism for 'conquer the second-largest oil reserves in the world'? What if the average Iraqi just wants fair and honest religious leadership (theocracy), and not necessarily democracy that is without doubt beholden to a foreign government? If you truly believe in freedom, then you must realize that freedom is never gained staring into the barrel of a gun.

Terror
Can you tell me how many Iraqis were connected to 9/11? Answer: ZERO. No hijackers, no masterminds, no financiers, nothing. What country did most of the hijackers come from? Answer: Saudi Arabia. Almost all the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. What country does Osama come from? Answer: Saudi Arabia. Why didn't the Bush administration immediately hold intensive investigations into what the Saudi involvement was? Why did they instead give special permission to allow all the Bin-Laden's to leave America (without even questioning them)? Do you honestly feel that the world is a safer place today? The current administration has stoked and stroked terror in the minds of its people, magnified threats, provoked enemies, completely alienated most of its former allies and taken away our own basic liberties in the name of safety. While they have increased spending on homeland security, and completely overhauled the structure of our government, I'd like to see some accounting of what's been done and how effective it's been. For example, putting big fences around all the little airports in this country seems like the wrong idea, and a failure in prioritization when compared with say securing nuclear fuels in the former Soviet Union.

If you have not yet seen Farenheit 9/11, or if you saw it before with a jaundiced eye, I urge you to watch it now. Watch it with open eyes, an open mind. This country is still young, while the populations of India and China become ever more important on the global stage as their economies continue to grow rapidly. We can't allow the worst President ever to extend his failures for another four years. This November, watch for an opportunity to vote for the principles that this country was founded on, and have made it so great for the past two hundred years. John Kerry and John Edwards represent the best chance this country has at regaining our pride, respect and admiration throughout the world. They are also the best chance we have at improving conditions here at home, so it truly is a land of opportunity, the land of the brave, and the land of the free.
