Browsing the web is such a critical element to today's technology culture, it's somewhat of a shock that it get's so little attention as a formal skill. I'm not going to describe how one should use a browser (other than to say you definitely need to learn what tabs are if you don't already know). What I am going to describe is a short list of browser extensions that transform your browser from an indispensable tool into a real power assistant.
The most useful extensions to Firefox are:
I finally decided to play around with Google Maps. Here is my house. If you want to try this at home, you'd better read the documentation. The APIs just went to version 2, and use a consolidated method so that you can combine various APIs within the same script easily.
Sure, there are tools and scripts that will correct your photos. Your camera probably has a 'red-eye reduction' flash mode. But, nothing works 100% of the time. If you really want pixel-perfect photos, or maybe you would like to enhance your photos to create blazing blue eyes, you'll want to learn how to do it yourself. Check this LJ article and get your GIMP on.
This site (and others hosted here) have been having some uptime problems. We were getting hit hard by all the 'bots' sent to index the glorious content of Rundlett.com. Yahoo, Google, MSN; everyone was in on the act like a feeding frenzy. It got so bad that my VOIP phone service was affected because the router would crash (dinky little consumer device :-( ). Well, in addition to upgrading the software packages to provide new features for rundlett.com (I will post about that separately), I've been instituting rules to control the bots too.
The Rundlett.com gallery (http://Rundlett.com/gallery) has been updated to the 2.2 version from 2.0.1
The photo gallery system is based on the 'Gallery' project - a very fine and popular system for creating photo communities on the Internet.
What is the Rundlett.com gallery? It's an online photo system hosted at rundlett.com. It allows users at Rundlett.com to
Today (June 26th) is Edgar Peter Rundlett's birthday. Happy Birthday Pete :-)
Julia Ward Howe wrote the Mother's Day Proclamation in 1870, as a call for
peace and disarmament. An excerpt follows:
"From the voice of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says: "Disarm! Disarm!
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."
Blood does not wipe out dishonor,
Nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war,
Let women now leave all that may be left of home
For a great and earnest day of counsel.

Keep in mind this is totally free (as in Liberty) technology (that you can download for free also). What can your computer do today?

Not sure if, when or how soon I might migrate that system to this one.
